Field Experience was founded by Minneapolis-based designer and researcher, Julka Almquist. She has 15 years of experience as an ethnographer and design researcher. While working at IDEO she became passionate about the art of exploration and how it can heighten curiosity and creativity. Through the development of Field Experience, she has new questions about inspiring a sense of reciprocity with nature through the exploration of our landscape. This project has evolved her ideas around human centered design to think about a broader more ecologically-centered design, and disrupting structures of power. This is underpinned by the fundamental idea that curiosity and inquiry ought to lead to questioning dominant narratives and not toward activities that are extractive or exploitative. She holds a PhD at the intersection of design and anthropology from the University of California, Irvine, and has taught at Art Center College of Design and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Julka collaborates with an extraordinary group of artists, designers, and activists to craft learning experiences. Explore with us: hello@fieldexperience.co
